Our story
Made by Jess Marlow, Fayetteville.
The wheel came first, the plan came later. I bought a used Brent on a Tuesday after a twelve-hour shift and set it up in the garage because there was nowhere else for it to go. For a year I threw bad cylinders at night and nursed during the day. The cylinders got better. Eventually the nursing stopped.
Ozark Clay is still that garage, with a kiln now and a door that closes. I make tableware because I think the things we use every day should be made with care by someone who will answer the phone if a handle comes off. Everything is thrown on the wheel, trimmed by hand, and glazed in recipes I mixed myself; the speckle you see is iron in the clay body, not a decal.
I load the kiln on Sundays. Most weeks that is forty to sixty pieces, and most of them go to tables within an hour of here. If you are passing through Fayetteville on a Saturday, I am at the farmers' market with a folding table and the seconds bin.
