Blown and stained glass

Glass does not care what you planned. You gather it from the furnace at 2,100 degrees and you have about ninety seconds to make something before it decides on its own. I find that clarifying.

North Forty Glass is a shared practice: three nights a week I rent furnace time at a hot shop outside Fayetteville and blow drinkware, pitchers and small vessels; the rest of the week I cut and lead stained glass at a bench at home, which is quieter and lets the dog stay in the room. Both halves are entirely by hand, from the first gather to the last polish. Read the rest →
